Many cat guardians believe that when an animal starts to sled, it definitely has pinworms. It is worth knowing that pinworms do not occur in pets, although pets can have many other parasites in their bodies.

Quando algo não está certo!

Observing the animal is very important. So if a cat guardian notices the first worrying symptoms in their pet, a red flag should already go off. So what should raise concerns? If your cat starts to sled, or often has diarrhea that additionally contains blood or mucus, it is essential to visit a veterinarian as soon as possible. The same goes if the pet starts behaving differently or has dilated pupils. It may turn out that your cat is infested with parasites and could be suffering from them. So remember how important it is to regularly deworm pets, even if cats are indoor. Infection with a parasite can occur not only when the animal drinks from a dirty puddle but also when it eats a piece of meat or fish that contains parasites and has not been previously heat-treated.

Quando deve-se deworm o gato?

The deworming of a cat must be done cyclically and regularly, even if no worrying symptoms occur. Typically, outdoor cats are dewormed every three months, while indoor cats are done once every six months. However, if your cat has contact with other animals that go outside, regular deworming every three months is recommended. Remember that an infested animal may not show symptoms of pain for a long time, while a severe inflammatory process is taking place in its body. Additionally, infestation can even lead to the destruction of the organism. Infestation is also very dangerous for kittens and young cats, in their case, it can even lead to death. Many young cats have an abnormally large belly, which is caused by infestation. So if you notice worrying symptoms, or your cat starts behaving differently, do not wait and go to the veterinarian. But this does not mean that animals that show no symptoms do not need to be dewormed regularly. It is also worth bringing your pet’s stool for regular testing. Furthermore, after deworming, the cat may experience diarrhea, which usually resolves on its own; however, if it lasts longer than two days, it is advisable to seek the veterinarian’s advice.

If your cat has been diagnosed with giardia infection, your pet may also infect you. Therefore, if you notice worrying gastrointestinal symptoms in yourself, you must go to an internist and inform them that your cat has giardia, as you may be suffering from a zoonosis, meaning a disease transmitted from animals to humans, and it is essential to undertake proper treatment.
